F500/Sportsman 600 combo?
« on: December 06, 2010, 01:43:45 PM »
I just got home from racing in Beausejuor this weekend. I race a F500 (indy chassis with stock 500 fuji and single stock pipe with mod stinger) Currently there is a F500 class offered at BRRP and SLEDS, but not sure how many guys will be in it. Sportsman 600 is a growing class just like F500. F500 actually had the most entries out of any class at Beausejuor! They had a Combo class with sportsman 600 and F500. The sleds were neck and neck and it was a good close competitive race. The way BRRP feels is if there are less than 3 or so sleds in the class they will bump together with something else. This situation could come more evident in sportsman 600 and F500. Is anyone opposed to running the classes together if there aren't enough entries in one to make a class?

Racing is no fun when your running roundy-round with only 1-2 other sleds. That F5 class was suppose to get more people interested in the sport at an extremely low budget seeing the shrinking numbers of roundy rounders. Problem is the 600 became the most popular sleigh over the last 10 years, Indy 488s are no longer what entry level racers want. I keep thinking the champ sleds will get replaced, when was the last 440 motor offered from a manu? The handful of elites with deep pockets will continue on for a few more years. Sure is fun to get into a race trailer and watch a champ sled come off da track then plug into the computer. They have those sleds running so close to melt down it's amazing.

I had a hard time swallowing the purchase and campaign of a polaris, but I love the benefits of it. On the other hand it has pissed me off greatly sometimes in the last 4 weeks of owning it. The F500 class was HUGE! this year at CPTC December and the F340 class is getting bigger by the second! The Formula Classes are the building blocks of oval racing. We just don't have as many F500 sleds in our area yet and it would work well to have the two classes together in the case there is less than 3 or 4 in a class. I think the number should be 4. If there are less than 4 sleds in F500 they should run with Sportsman 600. Vice Verse too if 8 F5's show up and 3 Sportsman 600's the Sportsman's run with the F500.

I think that should work eh?

What can't/shouldn't happen is a guy who shows up every weekend and makes a solo lap to take the win. He gets the points for first place and didn't have any competition.

For other classes BRRP might have to make accommodations (with out creating a F'ed up confusing class jumping system)

how about the class champion and end of the year points champion that walks away with all of the hardware and raced himself 4 of the 6 times he raced? To me that isn't right... I understand class jumping and everything else, but it gets a little ridiculous...

Jump all the classes you want Run all the classes you want, but you only get the points for your best finish of the day.

Lets say
1st place=10 points
2nd place =7 points
3rd place = 5 points

You raced 3 classes

two 2nd place finishes and one 1st place finish.

You take the one 10 point 1st place finish for year end points.

Minimum 3 sleds in the class to race for points and trophy. If less than 3 the class gets bumped into a comparable class most likely going off the jumping system compiled by ski dooraser.

Does that sound fair?

This eliminates the guys that bring 8 sleds and the Joe that has one sled from year end points. and also the guy from racing himself all year from collecting trophies for making hot laps.

Speed has never killed anyone, suddenly becoming stationary… that’s what gets you.

When numbers are low, combine the classes.  As long as the sleds are competitive with each other it does not matter to me.
