BRRP Jan 2 - Cancelled (Another equipment failure)
« on: December 30, 2010, 12:24:47 AM »
Not much to say but the third water pump shelled tonight. Jan 2 race is cancelled guys. ALL the BRRP staff willbe working to resolve the ongoing failures that have put us 0 for 2. I have special equipment to ID the issues and come up with a permanent solution. I have also contacted a hydraulic expert for help to insure our success.

What problem are you having with the pumps?

They lock up and die

Is the pump itself locking up or is the engine on the pump locking up? What kind of pumps are you using?

All of the above. They are either having bad luck or doing something wrong.

Our water pump is run via a hydraulic motor. Our hydraulic vendor has been assuring that the motors supplied "can't be hurt". Well we have destroyed them.

BRRP is not taking these set backs lightly and I'm calling in some personal favors to help get the breakdowns resolved. Hang in there guys, we have a great facilty that is just flat out kickin our a$$.

Armand has a race on Jan 15th and we one on the 16th. Should be a great weekend of racing. See you soon!

Have you tried a pump like this?
http://www.hondapowerequipment.com/products/modeldetail.aspx?page=modeldetail&section=P2WP&modelname=WB30&modelid=WB30XK2A
We use those pumps on a lot of our construction water trucks and have great luck with them.

In this cold weather though you have to make sure that the pump is either constantly pumping or that it is 100% drained or it will freeze and crack the housing. Just pouring antifreeze in the pump will not work. Your best bet is to drain the pump completely and park your water truck inside a heated building when not being used.
